Leading with Earth: From Sustainability to Ecological LEadership with Dr. Nurete Brenner and Dr. Elizabeth Meacham

The EarthConscious Leadership program is a ten-month course of study that helps us all give voice to, process and grieve for the social and economic injustices that we are experiencing. Through this journey of discovery, we will also explore ways that we can heal the harm that our economic system has wrought. We all yearn to be part of something greater than ourselves, and this course honors that yearning. Together we will create a community of Earth Leaders who recount the old story and begin telling a New Story of hope, and ecological leadership, for the future.

The Lake Erie Institute

EarthConscious Leadership Program

March through December, 2018

Philosopher and humanitarian Jean Valnier says “We are not called to do extraordinary things, but to do ordinary things with extraordinary love.”

In the Jewish tradition it is said: “You are not obligated to complete the work [of healing the world], but neither are you free to desist from it.

The first part of the program provides the theory and language that helps to shine a spotlight on some of the darkness in our world, while the second part is the practicum which is designed to allow all of
us learners to discover our own light. The Lake Erie Institute team of coaches and facilitators will support you in discovering your own personal part to play in the great web of people coming together all over the planet to illuminate some of the darkness. Our teachers and coaches will help you discover your gift, and help you articulate your passion, so that you can bring them forth here in our community and in our region in service to all the life forms on our planet.

New meeting day and time! The program cohort will meet face-to-face two Sundays a month, beginning March 11, 2018, from 1 to 4 pm.  We will meet online during the weeks in between our face-to-face meetings. We will not hold our meetings in September, due to a retreat being offered for both program cohorts.  Contact program chair, Nurete Brenner, with any questions: nurete at lakeerieinstitute.org.

The training program includes:

  • Twenty face-to-face learning sessions on Sundays (twice a month), 1 to 4 pm (no cohort meeting in September, due to the retreat)
  • Ten online modules for theoretical learning, reflection, and discussion
  • A guided leadership project that you will develop for your community
  • A full-day workshop with Dr. Jeanine Canty, on ecological and social healing (June 24th)
  • Participation in the LEI Wild Earth Wild Soul three-day retreat, led by Bill Pfeiffer, in September 2018
  • Individual coaching sessions to support and develop your leaderships gifts
